QC Corner

Gas Log-Sets and Vermiculite

Vermiculite is a platy mineral that expands when heated. It is used in various building materials, including gas log sets to imitate the look and feel of glowing embers and ash beneath the logs.

A vast majority of the vermiculite used in the U.S. through the mid-1990s came from a mine contaminated with asbestos. Per BPI technical standards, if vermiculite is suspected, the contractor must have the material inspected to determine if asbestos is present. This requirement must be followed before diagnostic testing (blower door, duct test, WCD testing) takes place. Numerous labs in the area are certified to perform this testing; contact your Account Manager if you need help locating a lab.

HVAC contractors: Don’t Miss Out on IHACI!

Once a year, the heating and cooling industry’s biggest names come together in one place – and you can attend for free! The 39th annual HVAC/R/SM/Performance Contracting Product and Equipment Trade Show, produced by the Institute of Heating and Air Conditioning Industries, Inc. (IHACI), will offer exhibits on new technology, business seminars, and resources to help contractors stay current on industry trends. The event will be held at the Pasadena Convention Center on November 14, 2018.

SoCalGas, SCE Energy Resource Center and the state-administered Residential Energy Efficiency Loan (REEL) program will be among the contractor resources. Both Home Upgrade and REEL can work together for HVAC contractors looking to sell the latest technology. REEL can help your customers finance eligible HVAC measures including your Home Upgrade projects, central AC units (14 SEER or greater), gas furnaces (80% AFUE or greater), split/package systems, duct replacement, insulation, and more. Our team can help new contractors get started and talk shop with current contractors. We’re excited to see you there!

Already a REEL Participating Contractor?

Tickets to IHACI are free, and we’d be happy to send you paper tickets for your team! Simply contact your account manager, or request tickets from the REEL Contractor Support team directly at 1-800-484-0109 or Email. You can also avoid registration lines by pre-registering online for a speed badge at www.ihaci.org.
